Το Τwitter, που βρίσκεται στη δεύτερη θέση των αναζητήσεων στο Bing για το 2009, είναι πλέον η δημοφιλέστερη αγγλική λέξη για το 2009, σύμφωνα με το Global Language Monitor που μετράει τις τάσεις της γλώσσας. Το Global Language Monitor κατάρτισε και έδωσε στη δημοσιότητα την ετήσια λίστα με τις δημοφιλέστερες λέξεις και φράσεις στην αγγλική γλώσσα.
Η πιο δημοφιλής λέξη το 2008 ήταν η “αλλαγή” (change), λόγω του ότι ήταν η λέξη-σύνθημα για τον Barack Obama, ο οποίος Obama όμως έδωσε τη θέση του στη γνωστή υπηρεσία microblogging των 140 χαρακτήρων!
